This February “mass promotion” carried the largest prize for the month, featuring travel vouchers, and a progressive cash prize of up to $20,000. The design brief for this promotion included little more than the dates, prize structure, how the prizes were to be won by guests, and a working name. Despite a positive reception from the Events Team, the original concept was rejected by the Marketing Director. Through constructive discussion with the Marketing Director, I was able to identify a few key points to work from, evolving that design into the result shown here.
I was afforded creative freedom to design the game board and surrounding decor for this promotion. I pitched the idea of playing the game on a giant table where the various game pieces would be moved around with a croupier’s stick–much like Hollywood portrayals of classic war rooms. Played with the same basic rules as Chutes & Ladders, with three players vying to travel around the world for the hourly grand prize. Players would roll large dice to determine where their game piece moved, and an events team member would move the appropriate game piece around the board.

In addition to the game board, pictured here, the entire area was decorated to resemble an airport terminal, with a gate number, digital departures board, chairs, and even a faux window looking out to an airplane at the gate. All pieces were designed, and produced in house, whichI was responsible for. I also coordinated with various departments to source, and set up additional components from their respective areas.
