Skagit Symphony’s new Conductor and music Director, Michael Wheatley added a POPS! concert to the symphony season. In order to set the stage for future POPS! concerts, the inaugural show started out with the most well-known composer in the world–the music of John Williams.

With a list of the programmed pieces in hand, I set out to assemble a collage of imagery from each film represented in the show: Indiana Jones, Jaws, Jurassic Park, Sabrina, Harry Potter, Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind, Superman, E.T. the Extra Terrestrial, and of course, Star Wars.

The overall composition was driven by the found images for each film. The frame of Indiana Jones silhouetted through a jungle canopy gave me a clear space to place relevant concert details, while also framing a rather chaotic scene at Hogwarts, just across the valley.

This piece was very well received, as it was quite effective at communicating the music, and the overall feel of the show.
